Kentraugh is a magnificent Regency period house occupying an enviable coastal location in the south of the Island with wonderful landscaped gardens. Completed in 1820 and steeped in history, having been occupied by a leading Manx family for over 200 years. Truly one of the finest period homes the Island has to offer. Offered for sale via private treaty to include the House, Gardens, Estate Outbuildings and Two lodge houses. Viewing is strictly by appointment via the sole selling agent, Chrystals – Please contact either Shane Magee or Neil Taggart on 01624 623778.

The name Kentraugh is derived from the Gaelic, for shore-end and its impressive portico entrance is built of Mostyn freestone from the gritsone quarry near Gwespyr in North Wales. This elegant neo-classical approach extends beyond the front facade of the house and wraps around the gables. The original footprint of the house has been enlarged to the south to provide a substantial orangery and to the rear of the library, a spectacular music room. The scale and elaborate decorative Gothic features of the music room are breath-taking with its large Victorian splayed bay overlooking the lower lawn garden beyond. The family crest with the motto "Spes Mea in Deo - My hope in God" is set along the ridge enclosing foliage-ringed horse heads. There is a lobby, comfortable drawing room and sitting room both with open fireplaces. To the other side of the generous entrance hall with elegant staircase is the dining room with feature marble fireplace. This room runs the full depth of the main body of the house with windows front and back, partially divided by decorative cast iron columns. A further lobby extends to the cloak room, office and snug. Extensions to the north provide a kitchen, pantry, house-keeper's room and servant's hall with room above. The first floor provides two principal bedrooms with Jack and Jill bathroom, guest bedroom, shower room and further bedroom. The Northern wing leads to two further double bedrooms, single bedroom, bathroom and additional room. The second floor leads to six further bedrooms, ensuite shower room and family bathroom. The attic level has 6 rooms with sky lights. There is a large basement area to the house providing significant storage. The property is well screened from the coast road, facing south/south-east, and is approached via North and South entrance with gate lodges. There is a long tree lined gravelled driveway with sea facing paddock to the front of the house incorporating a ha-ha. The grounds extend to approximately 30 acres (12.14 hectares) with formal landscaped gardens, lowered to the rear of the house with a sizable terrace and sheltered lawn, where there used to be a tennis court. There is a substantial greenhouse, orchard and garden store set within the walled garden. The extensive estate offices are largely empty , including a coach house, stables, kennels, diary, pigeon tower, curing house etc. A cobbled stable yard is laid out with black-stone and quartz cobbles in decorative diamond pattern. With thanks and reference to Nigel Crowe and Patricia Tutt for the above information. The property is registered (RB275) and this registration includes the house, outbuildings and other objects and structures within the curtilage – A copy can be viewed here;
